Quitting

Running is bacisally hard. I’ve ran with my boyfriend all month and we are just tired of it. It doens’t seem to have done very much and we just want to relax for a while. I know this isn’t a good mindset but when your partner gives up, you kinda do too.

fitness

September 27, 2008 at 8:55 pm (1)

I recently bought a fitness magazine for another class and hadn’t really planned on even reading it. However, I was bored one day and decided it couldn’t hurt to take a look inside. I was a little disappointed to find that there wasn’t much about healthy eating and exercise in the magazine. There was a great deal of beauty products that worked wonders and maybe a couple pages on small exercise techniques to make your arms and legs more toned. I was really expecting articles on heathly living and maybe some scholarly advice. I’m probably not looking in the right magazine for that kind of information, but the “fitness” title tricked me.

With the heat still an issue coming into late September I have found it very important to keep hydrated. When I drink a bottle of water before I run I also find it easier to get through the exercise without side cramps. I’m really not a big fan of water and would love to substitute it for chocolate milk anyday but with this intense workout I’m undergoing I think water is the best choice.

Grocery Shopping

September 17, 2008 at 5:44 pm (1)

The grocery store is full of fat-free, multi-grain, diet and many other ways to make it easy to lose weight. How do we know if they really work? Is switching to whole grain pasta really healthier? Will it really make a difference in the long wrong. Eating healthy is way more expensive too. I bet many people can’t afford to be healthy.

Not what I expected

September 16, 2008 at 9:06 pm (1)

Walking to class this morning made me take a look at the thousands of students on campus. I was surprised to see how many over weight teens there are at Eastern. Health and exercise are such an important and popular fad for our generation and yet there are a lot of kids who know nothing about it at all. It made me wonder if it was lack of knowledge of eating right and exercising that makes teens overweight or is it simply that they don’t care. Is being overweight “ok” now?

The plan has backfired..

September 12, 2008 at 10:12 pm (1)

For the most part I’ve been really sticking to my plan of not eating chocolate except for in the mornings. However, two days ago I caved. I just kept thinking about how I haven’t had a candy bar in quite some time and gave in. I had a king size hershey bar. I’m so ashamed. This won’t set me back too much but I’m disappointed in my lack of self control. I really blame the fact that I dislike a lot of foods on me loving chocolate so much. I should really branch out and try new foods. But why change a good thing?

Keeping Up

September 7, 2008 at 2:29 pm (1)

Getting into shape is harder than you think. If you’ve lived your entire life being healthy and never having to worry about losing weight or eating right then this could be a total shock. I’m experiencing firsthand how difficult losing weight can be. I have dramatically changed my diet, getting rid of all chocolate except for milk in the mornings, and snacking inbetween meals. Also, I have stopped eating fast food almost entirely. Since I’m a picky eater, I am finding it hard to find healthy foods that I can rotate in and out of my meal plan. I have also started running everyday with the help of a friend who really has been acting as a motivater. Sometimes you just need a light at the end of the tunnel to get you through.

The First Step

September 2, 2008 at 7:50 pm (Eating Healthy & Exercising)

Many college students struggle to stay in shape once they move away from home and basically start a new life. Their healthy trends from highs school sports and after school activities are over and now they spend their days and nights partying and enjoying this new freedom. However, a good majority of these students wish they hadn’t sat around all year and lost touch with their healthy habits. Getting into shape can sometimes be a very hard thing to accomplish. The first step is to fully commit yourself to this upcoming lifestyle that will make you healthy and happy. Researching tons of websites on the best way to eat right and exercise has shown me that this isn’t going to be easy. It takes a lot of hard work and consistency. Just about every legitimate health website said that eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise is the best way to lose weight fast. Exercising for more than 30 minutes a day, just about everyday, and sticking to low-fat foods is the best way to accomplish a healthier living style. Eating things like fruit and vegetables that have lots of fiber and other foods containing protein will help immensely. Whole grains will help with the intense workouts too.
